Leslie Richardson Home stay One to One Tutor

Location

Torquay – a beautiful resort town by the sea

Torquay is an international resort on the coast of South Devon (see map below), surrounded by beautiful countryside and coast. Ideal for leisure and sporting activities, there is something for everyone with many places to visit: stately homes, castles and gardens. The gardens and country parks of Torbay, the cathedral city of Exeter, Dartmoor National Park and other places of historic and cultural interest are all within easy reach.

Sporting activities

Tennis, swimming, sailing, golf and moor-land or cliff walking are all available. From the house, it is easy to go walking or jogging by the sea. It is helpful to make sporting arrangements before your arrival; please, inform us which activities you enjoy.

For more detailed information of leisure activities see FAQs and go to

Excursions with or without the tutor

Guests often wish to visit Cornwall (exotic gardens and Eden Project of tropical plants), the cities of Bath (Roman baths, cultural centre), Oxford (dreamy spires), Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare’s birthplace) or London at weekends. This can be arranged before or after your arrival. Detailed prices are available on request; Bath and Cornwall may be visited on a day trip, but you must expect to stay overnight for the other cities. A day trip may cost £30 - £60 and a trip with overnight accommodation approximately £200. These prices are approximate; quotations are available on request. For accompanied tours with a tutor, prices are doubled i.e. the tutor gives his time free but asks for expenses. For more detailed information see FAQs

Some of our guests bring other members of their family with them; these are very welcome. The main student’s room has a double bed and we have two further single rooms and can accommodate four people. The price for board and lodging, which includes all three meals daily, is £140, also see the rates for tuition Two to One in the Registration section).

See internet links of Cornwall, Bath, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon and London.

Accommodation

11 Wellswood Park is a Victorian house built in 1853, listed as of historic interest and part of three terraces facing a private park. Our guests have a comfortable bedroom with private bathroom together with a personal study room with desk and TV; fax, e-mail and broadband computer facilities are available. The house is centrally heated and warm but it is advisable to bring warm clothes in winter for outdoor use. All meals are provided; we were previously proprietors of a hotel and catering business and enjoy offering a high standard of hospitality. If you have special dietary requirements, please, inform us before your arrival. We are a non-smoking household and regret that there is no smoking in the house.

Transport

There are coach services from the London airports; it is important to reserve a seat because coaches are often fully booked in season. Transport can be arranged. Please ask for a quotation at the time of booking. It is worth checking flights to the less well-known regional airports; often a linking flight is cheaper and quicker than the coach or train. When planning your transit, please, make contact with us as we can often advise on alternative routes, which are more convenient and cheaper. We are pleased to meet students arriving by coach or train from London and by air from Exeter Airport at no charge. Bristol Airport is within driving distance; a charge of £60 is made for meeting students from Bristol to cover cost of fuel.
